South Hedland Town Centre

Client: LandCorp
Location: South Hedland, WA
Dates: 2012 – 2015
Collaborators: LandCorp, Traditional Owner representatives and Hedland arts community

UDLA were part of a multidisciplinary team engaged by LandCorp to revitalise the South Hedland Town Centre.

UDLA’s responsibilities included initial planning, urban design and landscape architecture input, as well as ongoing design facilitation with Traditional Owners and the Hedland arts community. UDLA designed and documented the town square and surrounding public open space areas, as well as administering the landscape construction works and supervising the maintenance contract.

The landscape spaces were designed with a long-term vision in mind; the South Hedland Town Square was the first stage of works implemented from the larger South Hedland Town Centre project as a catalyst for the redevelopment of surrounding lots and existing buildings.

Due to the consultation processes and clear planning framework, both LandCorp and the Town of Port Hedland have been able to continue the surrounding developments with a positive direction for future works.
