Revisiting Roebuck Bay Lookout

We were back on Yawuru Country in Broome recently to revisit and reflect on some of the projects we’ve worked on in this region.

In 2018, we were part of Broome’s Chinatown Revitalisation Project, a highlight being our involvement in the Roebuck Bay Lookout. Now complete, the lookout is a key destination along the Jetty to Jetty Walk Trail which links the historic Streeter’s Jetty in the town centre with the Old Jetty at Town Beach.

We were pleased to lead an excellent team on this project, working with fellow landscape architects TCL, artist and furniture designer Scape-ism, and Broome-based landscape architect and community art facilitator, Vanessa Margetts of MudMap Studio.

MudMap Studio worked with Yawuru artists Ricky Roe and Martha Lee, who collaborated with the students of Broome Girls Academy of Broome Senior High School to create two spectacular artworks that have been integrated into the upper and lower areas of the lookout.

Taking in the view from the lookout, across Roebuck Bay and beyond, is an essential experience for visitors to Broome, and we’re pleased to see that this experience is now accessible to all at such a busy time in the town’s tourism calendar.  A big thank you to our team and collaborators on this project. It’s very rewarding to see these plans come to life after much hard work from everyone involved.
