The Oval at Subi East crowned WA Park of the Year

Parks and Leisure Australia (WA) has named The Oval, part of the Subi East project, as the winner of the 2024 Western Australia Park of the Year! Congratulations to everyone involved.
As the first stage of DevelopmentWA’s Subi East Redevelopment, The Oval has transformed the former Subiaco Oval into a community hub featuring sports facilities, a playground, an open-air museum, and a Noongar Six Seasons Bidi. This project celebrates the area’s rich heritage while setting a new standard for sustainability by repurposing over 50,000 tonnes of recycled materials from the old stadium.
Designed by a UDLAxOCULUS partnership, constructed by Landscape Elements, and culturally led by Karrda, the project’s success is due to the multi-layered collaborations that made it possible.
The annual Parks and Leisure Australia awards celebrate the ‘The People Behind the Places,’ who contribute to creating vibrant, healthy, and inclusive spaces for all.
The Oval at Subi East will now compete as a finalist in the Parks and Leisure Australia National Awards of Excellence, to be announced on 15 October.
