Two projects acknowledged at AILA WA awards

We are delighted to share that UDLA has taken out two awards in last week’s Australian Institute of Landscape Architects WA Landscape Architecture Awards. Two team members were also acknowledged as emerging leaders in the profession.

Bilya Marlee, the School of Indigenous Studies at the University of Western Australia, was celebrated with a Landscape Architecture Award for Health and Education Landscapes.

“The landscape architect and architect have worked collaboratively to sensitively shape and locate the building within culturally significant stands of Marri and Jarrah trees and deliver a thoughtful and highly crafted project,” said the awards jury.

“The landscape architects led a deep engagement process that resulted in a project that showcases endemic plant species, creates settings for gathering and learning, and demonstrates how building and landscape can work in harmony to create a quality educational facility.”

We would like to thank and congratulate our client, the University of Western Australia; as well as project collaborators Richard Walley for his leadership and cultural guidance on this project; Kerry Hill Architects; BEST Lighting and Electrical; and Hydroplan.

UDLA also received a Landscape Architecture Award for Research, Policy & Communication for our work on City of Perth Urban Forest Soil Specification and Tree Details project.

Of this project, the awards jury said that “the City of Perth Urban Forest Soil Specification and Tree Details is an important project that has the capacity to positively impact the city for generations to come. The design team led a collaborative and evidence-based research process to come up with targeted soil specifications and tree establishment practices for optimum tree health in highly urbanised parts of Perth.”

A big thank you and congratulations to our client, the City of Perth; and to our collaborators The Arbor Centre and Bioscience.

We’d also like to congratulate our UDLA team members, Kat Jombwe and Sasha Spasic, who were both recognised with Future Leader awards. Congratulations Kat and Sasha!
